Ecuador Veterinary Care

Quito, Ecuador

This professional organisation dedicates all of its efforts in eliminating the mistreatment of animals and promotes respect to all animals. The principal objectives are to achieve the approval of an animal protection law, educate people about responsible ownership, assist in the control of dog and cat populations, improve the lives of rescued animals at the refuge by providing veterinary care.

Since the number of animal welfare agencies are small in Ecuador, this opportunity is unique and your help will be invaluable.

Your experience as a veterinarian or a vet student will be valuable in helping the injured and sick animal that arrive at the centre.

You can offer your help in a variety of activities:
*Provide vet assistance to the full time vets
*Assisting in rescues
*Monthly volunteer meetings.

Age Requirement16 (with parental consent).

You must be in current study or have completed veterinary science qualifications. You must be hard working, showing initiative and taking the lead when required.

Most of the staff at the project speak Spanish so it is highly recommended to have some basic Spanish. Talk to O2E about taking some lessons while you are at the project and living in Quito. Your Spanish will improve in no time. Bueno!

The staff are very busy so you should be prepared to ask questions and take initiative at the centre.

Project arrival date: Sunday, all year.
Quito orientation: Monday.

Minimum 2 weeks.

Flexible 4 – 6 hours a day.

Home stay – You may choose to stay with a family which is a great opportunity to practice your Spanish and get to know more about Ecuadorian culture. The families are carefully selected and have experience with foreign travellers. All families are located within walking distance from Central Quito and close to bus stations where you can catch the bus to the project. A laundry service and your meals are included and most families have a private bathroom.

Shared Apartments – The apartments are located in a quiet area in the middle of the entertainment district “La Mariscal.” Cleaning and a change of bed linen is complimentary and apartments are available on a monthly basis.

Home stays include breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you are in a shared apartment or a hostel, meals are not provided.
